Support services & additional help

Vision Super is committed to serving all of our members.

This includes translation services, use of the National Relay Service if you are d/Deaf or find it hard to speak or hear on the phone, assistance if you’re experiencing financial hardship, help with insurance claims if you’re sick or injured, a Vulnerable member policy, and flexible requirements for the provision of identification documents if you can’t access the standard documents. We train our member-facing staff on helping vulnerable members and providing additional assistance where it’s needed.

If you need an interpreter, please call TIS National on 131 450 and ask them to call Vision Super on 1300 300 820. The TIS National consultant will call Vision Super and translate the conversation. TIS is bound by the Australian National Privacy Principles, so your discussion will be secure and confidential. Vision Super will pay for this service.

Please note this is a third-party service and you may have to wait for a translator if the service is busy.

Vision Super welcomes calls through the National Relay Service if you are d/Deaf or find it hard to hear or speak to hearing people on the phone.

Choose your preferred access point by visiting the National Relay Service website here. Provide our phone number (1300 300 820) when asked by the Relay Officer.

You can also email us anytime, or use our Chat service to talk to one of our Member Services staff via text between 8.30am-5pm business days.

You can apply for early access to your super because  of severe financial hardship. The government has set out rules about when people can access their super on these grounds and you must meet these requirements to be eligible . More information on accessing your superannuation is available on our ‘Accessing your super’ page. If you want to apply, please call us on 1300 300 820.

We recognise that all members can experience vulnerability. People with a disability, mental illness, language barriers, neurodiversity, low literacy levels or cognitive difficulties, as well as older people, people facing family or domestic violence, people living in remote communities, members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and members of the LGBTIQA+ community may all be vulnerable members for the purposes of providing financial services.

Vision Super has processes in place to identify vulnerable members and offer extra help where it’s needed:

  • We are committed to a case management model for vulnerable members. This means that wherever possible, there will be one person who is your contact and who oversees your request from start to finish, while providing you with regular updates.
  • If you tell us you are experiencing vulnerability, or if we identify that you may be, we will ask you for permission to keep a record of the support or assistance you need. If you give us permission, we will note this on your file.
  • We provide training to our staff on the extra assistance people with particular vulnerabilities may need and on respectful interactions.
  • We can we can answer questions if you’re having trouble with completing a form, and can organise face to face meetings and home visits if necessary.
  • We continue to offer paper-based forms and options that do not rely on internet access to assist members who are not comfortable interacting online or who due to remoteness or financial circumstances cannot easily access online services. You can visit our office at level 15, 360 Collins Street Melbourne during business hours for help in person.
  • We will strive to refer you to any other services you may benefit from, where appropriate.

Some members who have difficulties with understanding or managing their super may choose to give access to a legal representative, family member, financial adviser or another person who they want to help manage their super. If you want to do this, you can complete an Authority to release information to a third party. The information the third party will be able to access may include potentially sensitive information, for example about your health.

The authority lasts two years, unless you ask us for a shorter expiry, or choose to revoke it. More information is included on the form.

Vision Super uses the AUSTRAC guidance for members who cannot provide the identity documents that we would usually rely on for identification. AUSTRAC (the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre) is Australia’s financial intelligence unit and the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulator.

For example, you may not have a driver’s licence or a birth certificate, the information in your identification documents could be out of date, or there could be conflicting information in different documents.

This might be the case in particular for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members who live in remote areas, transgender members, members affected by family violence, people or businesses affected by natural disasters such as floods or bushfires, members experiencing periods of homelessness, people who are or have recently been in prison and/or members who have come to Australia as refugees and asylum seekers.

This is not an exhaustive list and there may be other circumstances that make it difficult for a you to identify yourself or to access the documents people usually use to prove their identity.

We’re committed to being flexible to the extent the law allows and in a way that minimises the risk of fraud.
